7 Simple Ways To Spread Mental Health Awareness Everyday

There are many ways to support and raise awareness for mental health in our everyday lives. Whether it’s a grand gesture or a small, thoughtful action, it doesn't matter. Here is a list of a few simple ways to spread mental health awareness in your everyday life. 

1.) Talk About It 

The most powerful way to break stereotypes surrounding mental health is by having open conversations about mental health. By simply talking about it, you are raising awareness by normalizing mental health and reducing stigmas and stereotypes. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or work colleague, these conversations are great for fostering a better mental health community 

2.) Wear Your Awareness 

The clothing and garments you wear can be a great conversation starter. Choosing apparel that promotes mental health awareness— like those available in our shop— allows you to raise awareness wherever you go. For example, wearing a shirt with the words “Don't Give Up” may catch someone’s eye and motivate them.

3.) Social Media Platforms 

If you have a social media presence, big or small, you can use your platform to spread awareness about mental health. For example, you can share posts, articles, or resources. Social media can also be a place to share your own experience. Not only could your personal story resonate with others, but it also helps create an environment where talking about mental health is okay. 

4.) Learn More 

Educating yourself about mental health signs and symptoms is another excellent way to spread awareness. Learning more provides a better understanding. When you know more, you can be a better support system for yourself and others. You can find a new mental health-related podcast, grab a book to read or attend workshops or seminars.  

5.) Self-Care 

You can’t pour from an empty cup! Support yourself and your mental health! Make self-care part of your daily routine. Establish practices that can bring you peace and allow your body to de-stress. You could write your feelings in a journal, schedule time to meditate, or go for a jog. Taking care of yourself may also show others the importance of self-care. 

6.) Be a Good Listener 

If someone you know is struggling with their mental health, let them know you are there for them and supportive along their journey.  You can offer to listen to their emotions, help them locate the necessary resources, or just be present with them. Knowing someone cares can make a huge difference. 

7.) Get Involved in Your Community 

The National Alliance of Mental Illness estimates about 1 in 5 adults experience mental illness in the United States. A great way to be an advocate is to get involved in your local community. There are many ways to get involved and be a part of building a resilient community. You can attend mental health awareness events, participate in fundraisers for organizations supporting mental health, or join an advocacy group to lend your voice and skills. 

However you choose to spread awareness about mental health, it doesn't matter! The important thing is to help break stigmas and stereotypes.
