Pen to Paper: How Journaling is a Self Care Tool

Journaling is a great way to navigate your emotions and maintain good mental health. Our lives are filled with many distractions, such as work, side hustles, friends and family obligations, social media, and numerous other things that pack our to-do lists. That makes it challenging to find a moment of peace or clarity.

That’s where journaling comes in.

Journaling can be fun and bring out your vulnerability. Here are a few reasons why you should have a journal in your self-care arsenal.

Release Your Emotions:

Journaling is a great way to express your emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Think back to when you were a kid.

Did you have a diary or a special notebook growing up where you wrote your deepest inner thoughts? From a young age, we are taught that writing our feelings, inner emotions, and experiences is beneficial. It’s the same for our adult lives.

Getting a journal can be a great way to express any pent-up emotions about situations in your life. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, sadness, or depression, putting pen to paper may offer relief.

New self-awareness:

Writing down your thoughts and emotions regularly will help you become more aware of your thoughts and behaviors.

Starting a daily journal could be a great exercise in reflecting and ultimately identifying good and bad patterns in one's emotions and actions.

Being more self aware can help you navigate situations better! Journaling can also teach you your triggers and how to manage them..

Reduces Stress:

Journaling is a great self-care practice and a way to reduce stress. When you journal about your thoughts and feelings, you can ground yourself. Writing can also assist with shifting your focus from worries and fears. Writing in a journal regularly can reduce stress and anxiety and promote calmness and a sense of structure.

Set Better Goals and Track Your Progress:

Write down your goals and aspirations!

Journaling offers a great space to outline your plans for the future, track your progress, hold yourself accountable, and celebrate your milestones.

One of the best parts of keeping a journal is turning the pages. A journal allows you to read back and see how far you have come. You can celebrate your progress, learn from obstacles, and track your well-being.

Let’s Get Started:

Find a journal: You can choose from our shop, a digital journal, or your favorite notebook.

Set a Routine: Schedule time to journal your thoughts and feelings.

Write: Just put your pencil or pen on the pages. There are no rules with a personal journal. Just allow your creativity to flow.

Reflect: Once you have a solid routine and a writing flow, don’t forget to look back. Reflect on all of the progress you’ve made— no matter how small.
